1994. Pulp Fiction
Greeted with a mix of shock and awe when it premiered at Cannes pageant in 1994, Quentin Tarantino's 2nd function movie – which follows the intertwining lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster's spouse, and a pair of standard thieves – is bursting with neo-noir thrills, pop-subculture references and cartoonish violence. It launched Samuel L Jackson's career, resurrected John Travolta's, and demonstrated Tarantino as Hollywood's new enfant terrible.
